A look at how Indians have helped shape the world for the better

India, the seventh largest country by area and second most populous country in the world with over 30,000 years of historical importance has made several contributions to the world out of which many have been erased from history or someone else has taken credit for it.

This article aims to shower some light upon the major contributions made by India’s finest to the world irrespective of caste, color, age, time. Rich in Culture, Tradition, Religion, Science, Prosperity, I couldn’t stop myself from writing about our precious history and achievements many of which we aren’t aware of and are blissfully ignorant.

Once upon a time India was described of as the land of heavenly beings not to forget 33 billion manifestations of gods in Indian scriptures and our golden heritage and even more glorious past. Indian culture and knowledge regarding most things known to mankind were so widely known that India was called as the pinnacle of Human Civilization several hundreds of years ago.

Without any further ado, let me enlighten those who know already and all those others who don’t know anything of the sort about the country they are living in, and all those other people around the world who see India as just a land of snake charmers and poverty about INDIA:

  • We invented the number system courtesy of the invention of Zero by Aryabhatta. Now you know why we are very good in Mathematics…
  • World’s first university ain’t Cambridge or Oxfords. It was established in Takshila in 700BC and included about 10,500 students from all over the world who studied more than 60 subjects at the time. We also built University of Nalanda in 4th Century BC, being our one of the most prestigious achievements to date.
  • All of you Europeans out there, this article isn’t about what’s better and whose better. It’s about enlightening the facts as it is. By which, I forgot to mention one thing. Of all those languages you guys use, Sanskrit our language is said to be the mother of all European languages and it is also the most suitable language for computer software according to a report by Forbes magazine in July 1987.

  • Earliest school of medicine was invented in India known worldwide as Ayurveda. This amazing system of medicine was founded by Charaka who is known as the father of medicine about 2500 years ago.
  • Until Britishers decided to invade India in 17th century, India was the richest country in earth. One more notable thing about our wealth is that we haven’t invaded any country in our last 10,000 years of history and all our money is as genuine as it gets…
  • Hundreds of years before Astronomer Smart calculated time taken by earth to orbit Sun, our own Bhaskaracharya did it in 5th century and calculations of his say that it will take 365.258756484 days.
  • Another smartie named Budhayana calculated the value of “Pi” and explained the concept of Pythagorean Theorem and that too in 6th See, we were ages ahead of all of you. But we aren’t boasting of any of it and I am not too. It’s just facts everyone need to know.

  • Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus came from India. The largest numbers used by Greeks and Romans were 106 whilst during vedic age, we used numbers of the magnitude which aren’t even used now. (10 to the power of 53 in contrast – 10 to the power of 12 used now).
  • It was being believed that pioneer of wireless communication was Macaroni but it has been rejected by USA based IEEE who states clearly in their study that it was prof. Jagdeesh Bose who’s the person to whom the credit should go to.
  • And by the way we invented Chess. Thought you should know.
  • There are lots of hospitals around the world catering to all sorts of ailments known and unknown to man in the world. About 2600 years ago, there existed a brilliant guy named Sushruta in India who is known as the father of surgery as he and his team of brilliant docs conducted complicated procedures such as cesareans, cataracts, artificial limbs, fractures, urinary stones, even plastic surgery and brain surgery. These guys even administered anesthesia at that time.
  • Whilst many of other cultures were nomadic forest dwellers about 5000 years ago, Indians established Harappan Culture in Indus Valley Civilization.
  • The entire list of Indian inventions and contributions make up for lots of pages on the Wikipedia website itself and if I am to start including everything here, then it would not get over any soon.
  • Even now we treat our guests in our own traditional way of Athidhi Devo Bhava… this has been passed over to each and every one of us from old times and we still practice it. I will deconstruct the words for easy understanding… Athidhi – Guests Devo – God Bhava – to treat…in short it means that every guests arriving on Indian soil is to be treated as God itself.

So let me wind up by saying this out loud to both Indians and every other person out there in the world: we aren’t all snake charmers and poverty stricken people and when you get to know us better and our culture and our wonderful country, you will learn that it’s as beautiful a country and people as it gets. Every country in the world is wonderful and unique in its own way. Appreciate it, grow with it, influence the administration and mould it in the best manner.  Come, let us grow together.
